To all of my girls trying to figure out their 20s!
Girl…lemme tell you…being in your 20s is TOUGH!!! But, you’ll survive,
I promise.
1. You will make mistakes! You will probably fail miserably. Hell I went and got a Bachelor’s degree in the wrong field. I didn’t figure that out until I entered the job market, got a gig using my degree, got myself in debt from buying crap from my cool salary, and went to Grad school to try to make it all make sense. Dude, I hated my JOB and I HATED grad school! I thought I’d screwed my life up. Turns out all of my experiences have proven invaluable!
2. Don’t pressure yourself to have a boyfriend/husband! Until you can stand to be around yourself, by yourself and be fulfilled…a guy won’t fill the void. Chances are, if you’re not happy with the woman in the mirror, your man-picking skills might be kind of out-of-wack. This leaves room for sub-par relationships with sub-par manboys. Save yourself the drama and spare the extra miles on Good Old Lady Vag down there-
3. Come to terms with your mommy/daddy issues. Look we all have a childhood and past, but the moment you let that stuff go is the moment you start to take responsibility for your own life. Do not bury your issues! Confront them, fight them (they may even defeat you at times), but ultimately you WILL WIN!
4. Stay on your birth control!!! This is pretty self explanatory. Don’t be stupid.
5. For godsake, learn to cook! Bragging about the fact that you “cannot boil a hotdog” is NOT CUTE! It’s quite pathetic actually.
6. Before you shack up with your boyfriend, that you “love sooo much OMG”, consider this….Have you even owned your OWN set of towels? Have you gone to Wal-Mart, or if you’re high maintenance, Target, and picked out your very own set of towels for your very own place? In case you did not pick up on it, towels, are a euphemism for independence and self- sufficiency.
7. Develop an exercise routine! Look don’t fight me on this one. I don’t care if you’re#TeamFitThick or a complete novice….get off your spreading a$$ and workout! (Sadly, all of our a$$es are spreading, some faster than others). Aside from the physical benefits, the benefits on preserving your mental stability through working out are insurmountable. Exercise keeps the brain robust and thus helps in fending off mental debilitation. Did you know that Alzheimer’s kills more adults than prostate and breast Cancer combined! We can all win this battle and enter our 30s, 40s, 50, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s and 100s with ease and grace.
8. Pray, meditate, take your Zoloft…do whatever you need to do in order to stay mentally centered, spiritually full and of sound mind. There is no embarrassment in having a release. We all have a soul, be sure to feed yours with positive energy.
